Apologies in advance to the Lynch mob for posting a Vitara related question on a Jimny forum...

I've been toying with the idea of getting myself a second Jimny/Compact 4x4 after recently selling a sports car. I use my Gen.4 as a daily so I'm reluctant to ask too much of it at this early stage of ownership. I've dipped my toe in the water so to speak and seen what she can do, but I don't want to wreck the old girl.

I've come across this commercial Vitara 1.9 diesel, I understand they're pretty rare. Does anyone know much about them?

SUZUKI VITARA COMMERCIAL 1.9 DIESEL 89K
Completed

Failing that my options are:
1. pick up an honest older Gen.3 Jim.
2. Or perhaps look at getting my Gen.4 Xpel Clear wrapped so that I can take it on the lanes without worrying about the paintwork   (I can hear you all shouting 'PAVEMENT PRINCESS' as a write this!!!

Either-way an interesting topic as I've not come across the commercial Vitara's until now.

I know that in general people don't rate the diesel engines (but I have never had one). And if you think Gen3 Jimnys are rusting fast then you should see the early Vitaras. Most have disappeared altogether. I have spoken to a number of breakers yards over the last week looking for brake calipers and a number have said that they do not even bother taking Vitaras in as they are rusted out and hardly anything is worth salvaging.

Obviously I am biased but if you look carefully there are still some Jimny Gen3 bargains around although they are hard to find amongst a field of complete rubbish.

Thanks Martin,

Very interesting. I didn't realise Suzuki had launched commercial variants of the Vitara, am I right in saying then that the new Gen.4 commercial will be the first commercial variant in a long time?

For the price of one new defender, one could buy a second commercial Gen.4 and use it as a workhorse B).
